Good evening ladies and gentlemen!
Happy Columbus Day People! Unless you live in Vermont then I say “Happy Indigenous People Day” – weirdos.
We caught 7 yesterday while conducting a Lobster Excursion for some Californians! I was going to try and sneak off early this morning during low tide and try to find my three sunken soldiers, but I couldn't even see the boat or the bridge from our front window. That’s what we salty folk call Pea Soup!

So, we had no choice but to try later in the day! Can only do what mother nature allows.
BUOY OH BUOY did it come right down to the wire! It was a matter of a few lobsters that separated a couple of fellow lobster potters.
Same spot as yesterday, where the guy told me was loaded with lobster...hmmm, he was either lying or really didn't have a clue what he was talking about. Or maybe just had not idea how much the Liza B can haul since he’d never been aboard her.
Anyway, I guess I should have taken a chance with the 12-foot seas...at least I knew the bugs were there!!! Those 7 lobsters this morning came out of 6 traps (remember I sunk 3 - not intentionally). It's just like my golf game, when I play safe I almost always end up in the woods. That is why I should have just put all the traps on the line and went for the jackpot - I should get a hat made up with my new slogan – JUST GO FOR IT!
I was trying to go out first thing at low tide so I could try to find my sunken traps, but due to the pea soup we decided to pull back. While I was waiting for the laundry from the Airbnb to cycle through I was able to take a quick lunch break from my very busy day and run out during high tide (Cait is my witness). I only managed to haul in ONE lobster. It was depressing. I'll tell you one thing; that spot is great for crabbin' (shout out John Jr!). We reset 4 traps in the spot that we caught the one and steamed out to our old honey hole to set the other two. Why not throw in a little more effort on the last day!
Kittery Point low tide, on Indigenous People's Day, was at 18:40. I'll tell you I was bound and determined to find those 3 traps and go out with a bang, so I scurried out again at 17:00 (with a little vodkey tonic) and low and behold one had risen from the dead! Hopefully the other two appear before the boat is pulled.
Side note - had some poor fellow come down and look at the boat on Sunday morning and, just like that the damn thing overheated on the sea trial. I had steam coming out my ears and smoke pouring out the exhaust. Fire trucks were screaming across the I-95 bridge, but because I now know how to fix the problem on the fly I was able to wave them off! Surprising enough he says he’s interested even with the minor issues; I pray to God the guy gives me any sort of offer! As a fellow captain once told me, the happiest days of owning a boat is the day you buy it and the day you sell it!
Anywhose while I was looking for the 3 sunken soldiers at not quite low tide, I just so happened to drift by all my other traps...so, I decided I might as well check them again (hehehe). Long story short it was an expensive day, I only caught 2 tonight (from my old honey hole) for a total of 3 on the day. The same person would have won after this morning’s haul, but for you all I had to go back out there and I only have three friggin’ lobsters to show for it and about $75 guzzled in gas!
Congratulations to first time Lobster Potter Gina! Your guess of 241 was the closest to the actual number of lobsters caught Aboard the Liza B for the 2019 Banfield Lobster Pot season - the final count 232. Sorry Kenny...you were close at 218 but IPD got the best of ya.
The numbers:
· October 2018 YTD: 36
· October 2019 YTD: 38
· Columbus Day 2018 YTD: 254
· Columbus Day 2019 YTD: 232

Still a couple weeks left and some coolers to fill until boat is pulled, so lobstering will continue! And thanks to my FIRST MATE, she's a real worker!
Thanks to all who participated! Look forward to more joining in on the fun next year!
Keep you posted!
